Face serums have become a staple in my beauty regime, but it took me a while to find the right serum for my skin. Luckily, I’ve been able to try quite a few different brands of facial serums and have composed a list of my top five.

Before I talk about the top five face serums, let me first tell you how this search began. A few months ago, I noticed that my skin was dry and nothing I did helped. I tried dozens of hydrating moisturizers and although they were great, they just didn’t doenough for my skin. So I went to Sephora and asked if I could try some of their best face serums made fordry skin. Believe it or not, the woman in the facial area referred me to the hair section. Once there, the hair girl became confused and sent me back to the facial section and as you can imagine, I went back and forth several times (hair↹ face) before finally getting a few samples to take home. In case you’re wondering, yes I was actually sent home with a hair oil for my skin andno, it did not do the job.

I also received a sample of a great face serum in my Birchbox, which if you don’t already know is a beauty box delivered to your home once a month. It’s one of the best beauty investments I’ve ever made.

The rest of the serums on the list were samples I received directly from the company. In case you don’t already know this, most beauty companies will sendfree sampleswithevery purchase. It’s a great incentive to buy and that’s one way we’re able to try so many amazing products.

Once I began using these serums, I quickly discovered that they all had one thing in common: they did not containwater. Water should never be an ingredient in face serums and here’s why: it’s only purpose is to stretch out the product and make it last longer. In other words, it’s being watered down to cut costs. A great and effective serum is not watered down, but instead is pure and natural.

Believe it or not, water was the first ingredient in three ofthe mostexpensiveserums I sampled at Sephora! They felt watery for good reason and they were less effective because of it.

So with that said, the top five serums are as follows:

1

PURE MARULA OIL – The Leakey Collection

The first face serum I ever tried was this Marula Oil from The Leakey Collection. I received a sample of Marula Oil in my Birchbox and at first I had no idea what it was or how to use it. After doing a little research, I discovered that oil is actually really good for your skin. Once I tried it, I was a believer. I love Marula Oil and it made the list because it works. Marula Oil has been used by women in Africa for “eons” because it protects skin against damaging radicals that accelerate aging and it visibly reduces signs of aging.PRICE: $78

2PELLEINFUSIONS– Pelle Beauty

I recently fell in love with PelleInfusions and now I’m completely obsessed with everything Pelle Beauty creates. The reason I love PelleInfusions is it gives my dry skin everything it needs. I don’t even need to use a moisturizer anymore. I simply apply PelleInfusions in the morning and at night and my skin looks and feels more hydrated. PelleInfusions are highly concentrated, completely natural, and come in four formulations for those with varying skin types. I love PelleInfusions and recommend it to every woman I know.PRICE: $64.95

4ROSE 012 ULTRA-MOISTURE SERUM – REN

I received a sample of Rose 012 Ultra-Moisture Serum from REN when I visitedSephoraand it was the best serum I received that day. This serum is not watered down like the others and it really helped my dry skin. Once I was able to do more research on this product, I quickly realized why I loved it so much – it’s made of natural bio active ingredients that help restore skins moisture and elasticity. This serum is great for people who have dry skin and it does a great job of making skin look more alive.PRICE: $80

QUENCH HYDRATINGSERUM – Kate Somerville

I tried Kate Somerville’s Quench Hydrating Serum simply because of the name. As a person who suffers from dry skin, seeing a product that has the words “quench” and “hydration” in its name obviously made me wonder whether it would work with for me. I’m happy to report that it works, but I must confess that this product does contain Retinol. It’s not a natural product, which is why it isn’t my favorite. Plus, it’s made for people who have normal to dry skin, so I still had to use a cream to get the moisture my skin needs. All in all, it made the list because it does work and would be a great addition to anywoman’sbeauty regime.PRICE: $65
