I’m not a baker nor would I ever aspire to be one. I’d rather author a book, design my own house, or shop for a living than to bake everyday (although that could be fun). But that doesn’t mean I can’t make the CUTEST gift tag cookies EVER! And if I can bake these adorb cookies w/o a rolling pin, cookie cutter, baking sheet, or even a working oven…so can you!
In the spirit of the holiday season, I’ve baked some sparkly holiday gift tag cookies. I’m sure you can’t finish reading this post w/o either salivating or thinking that these are the cutest edible things you’ve ever seen.
Here goes…
I told you so…
I made vanilla-sugar cookie dough from a mix. I cheated, it’s not from scratch (told you I’m not a baker). Once you complete the mixing step and allow dough to chill, roll dough out to 1/4″. I didn’t have a rolling pin so I used a tall round glass. Works just as well!
To create the gift tag shape, place a gift tag on top of dough and cut along the edge. I used a pizza cutter.
To create the gift tag hole, I used an olive oil nozzle.
Voila!

Cookies are ready to be baked. I didn’t have a cookie baking sheet so I used the flat bottom surface of a pie pan. AND b/c our oven was broken, I had to bake these in our tiny pizza oven toaster which is quite temperamental.
Once your vanilla-sugar gift tag cookies are done baking, take them out to rest and allow to cool. Time for frosting (candy glue). Making frosting is super easy- just add powder sugar w/ lime or lemon juice. No measurement just eye ball it. If it’s too runny, add more powder, vice versa. This candy glue is also great for gluing candies onto ginger bread houses.
First add round sugar pearls to the border of the tag hole. Don’t add the frosting onto the entire cookie b/c it dries too fast. Once you are done w/ the pearls, the frosting may be too dry to stick to the sugar crystals. One step at a time.

Silver sugar pearls + gold shimmer sugar.
Spread the frosting onto the remainder of the cookie. Ignore that the edges of my cookies are burnt. Told you that my tiny oven toaster was temperamental!
Add gold sparkling sugar. Obviously, you can add whatever color you’d like or even leave it blank and write To and From’s on it (with writing icing). Allow to set and harden in the fridge. This may take up to 2 hrs.
Add gift tag cookies to those special holiday gifts!
Yummy and gorgeous!
And of course I can’t overcome all those obstacles to bake these gift tag cookies and not enjoy them! So delish!!
What’s your favorite goodies to bake for the holidays?
If you want to be an overachiever & bake these vanilla-sugar cookies from scratch, here’s a great recipe. ‘Tis the season to be jolly…
