Karl Lagerfeld was elated. An entire year of planning for Chanel’s 2013 Cruise presentation and, the week before the big day, current events conspired to completely recontextualize the show, spinning a delicious story of irony into the time and place. His succinct summation—”Versailles in a Socialist France”—said it all.­­ Chanel does it again, le duh. What sane girl doesn’t wish for candy coated macaroons and ruffled pannier shorts. The presentation glittered with eighteenth century luxury and fluff. Oh, the fluff.
