A few weeks ago, I attended an event (hosted by EFactor and AlleyNYC) highlighting green and eco-savvy fashion here in New York. The panelists—Tara St. James of Study NY, Alden Wicker of Clean Hippie, Allison Parris, Natalie Frigo, Yoli Ouiya of Yoli’s Green Living and Enovia Bedford of Accessory Remix—discussed their personal ventures into conscious design with moderator Kerri Quigley of The Fashion Class.

I've written about green fashion before, and I'm very interested in innovative ways designers are making a difference. A few highlights:

  • The production of just one ounce of gold creates 20 tons of waste.
  • Children are employed by the gem mining and processing industry because of their small hands. Many of these children often experience serious lung-related diseases due to breathing in the gem dust for a long period of time.
  • Being eco conscious doesn't mean you have to completely change your entire life. Do what you can, and make a difference where it works for you.
"If you can [be ethical], why wouldn't you?" -Allison Parris

After the panel, I was excited to wear pieces by Study NY, Sprout Watches and Nina Z in a mini fashion show with some other lovely bloggers. It was so fun to sport these beautiful designs (including a phenomenal cape) along side other NYC bloggers. I was honored to be asked!

Ashley and Melissa were also models for the event, but unfortunately I ended up without a group photo!
