While visiting a friend, I spotted something on her patio that had three attributes that I adore: the colour white, a vintage vibe, and a shabby chic finish. It was an old window screen and frame that was sitting in the rain, waiting to be taken to the dump.

Like any good friend, I selflessly offered to take it off her hands, and she happily obliged.  I didn’t know what I was going to turn it into, but I knew that the potential was there.

After a few hours of Pinterest and pondering, I decided to turn it into an inspiration/bulletin board.  I waited for a sunny Sunday afternoon, made myself a coffee, and went to work.

My first step was to take apart the frame, so I could remove the screen without leaving sharp wire behind.

Then I went to a local hardware store and purchased a piece of wood with the exact dimensions of the screen for the back of the bulletin board.  Not all hardware stores will cut wood to exact dimensions for you, so make sure to check that your local store will do this.

I purchased two rolls of quark and two half inch foam boards from my local Michaels and cut them to fit the dimensions of the board.  Using a hot glue gun, I glued the foam to the back of the board, then the quark to the foam.

I considered leaving the quark exposed, but decided to cover it with some vintage inspired wallpaper that was leftover from my bedroom accent wall project.

Finally, I nailed the frame onto the board, and my vintage inspiration board was complete. To hang it, I used a picture hanging kit that I purchased at Home Depot.  I can’t wait to see what ideas and articles develop from of my inspiration board.
