For this project, I only used about a can and a half of Krylon's Metallic "Brilliant Gold" spray paint.  I painted one coat and allowed to fully dry for an hour and then painted another coat.  My bookshelf is a few years old from IKEA, and the plain steel color of it was just so, blah.  Changing it to this gold color spruced it up a bit and made it feel new again!
