The brand allowed press to pick out three shades. Like a moth to a flame, I of course zeroed in first on Icon, a deep blue-red with a hint of (a hint) of magenta. It’s one of those gorgeous, bad-ass colors that looks great on all complexions. I’d love this with MAC Nightmoth Lip Pencil, except mine seems to have grown legs (grrr where is that thing??). Get Icon here.
My next pick was Raven, a bold reddish-orange. This just might be one of the most wearable orange lip colors out there because it’s the perfect combination of red and tangerine. It’s the orange you wear when you’re scared to wear the hue, but then you get totally turned out because it’s so high fashion and lovely. Works on just about every skin tone. Get Raven here.
My third pick was a berry-ish pink called Empress. I’d describe it as the bold-lipped girl’s version of a muted color. It’s soft yet still packs a punch. Get Empress here.

Hourglass promises up to 14 hours of wear on these, but perhaps they weren’t aware of my extreme snacking habits. While the color doesn’t disappear, it does fade after several glasses of water and *ahem* a couplefew snacks. But reapplying isn’t a huge deal for me since the colors are so amazing. Also the matte finish is more of a velvet matte, so no hard as a rock lips here. It does feel a little tacky (no, not Christmas sweater tacky), but after a few minutes you get used to it. I’d also recommend a liner with these to really sharpen the look.
Prices and where to buy: $28 at Sephora.
